Nestled in the heart of the majestic Sierra Sur of Oaxaca, the ejido of San Felipe Cieneguilla, belonging to the municipality of San Sebastián Río Hondo, is distinguished by its rich cultural heritage. In this community, traditions and festivities reach their peak during the patron saint festival, celebrated from February 1st to 5th. During this time, community life intertwines with the biodiversity of its vast pine and oak forests, creating an ecosystem vital to the region's environmental balance.

For generations, agricultural activities and the production of wool and clay handicrafts have been the primary source of income for its inhabitants. However, in recent years, San Felipe Cieneguilla has taken a significant step forward in the protection and sustainable management of its natural resources. In collaboration with Yaax Carbon, the community has implemented an innovative carbon credit project that not only protects its environment but also generates sustainable alternative income.
